Charles Hale

Charles Nathan Hale was born in Honolulu Hawaii on November 8, 1931 while his father Forrest was stationed there serving in the Navy. In his young life, "Chuck" lived all over the country as the family moved with his father's military career, from the sub base in Groton, CT, eventually settling in San Diego at North Island, near where dad grew up in La Cresta, CA.

In school Chuck was an athlete, competing in high jump and on the football team for Grossmont High. He was a bodybuilder as well and took the title of Mr. Jr. San Diego in competition one year. As he grew up he had a love for music and art, gifted with a booming operatic tenor voice and creating many oil paintings. Pursuing his passions, he moved to New York City in the early 1950s where he met a young woman from south of Boston who was also living in NYC pursuing a singing career. They married and settled back in Los Angeles. Their marriage did not last, but resulted in two children, Lisa and David.

Chuck continued his singing and art for some time, singing in clubs and piano bars around LA. He soon remarried, bought a home, worked many years for GM, and lived peacefully in the San Fernando Valley his remaining years until his passing.

Charles Hale is survived by his daughter Lisa, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his sister Freya and nephews Gary and Dale and families. His son David is deceased as well as former spouses Elsie and Jenny, and brother Sam.
