EDITH KOZBERG

Edith Lynn Smallberg Kozberg was born to Edith Rose Haybeck Smallberg and Hillliard Elliot Smallberg.in Los Angeles, California at Cedar Sinai hospital. Edith had no siblings.
Edith attended Westlake School for Girls and graduated in 1955. Then she moved to Austin, Texas and attended University of Texas and there she joined the Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. Edith attended for two years and then transferred to UCLA and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in Nutrition and Dietetics.
Edith met Marvin Kozberg through mutual friends and they were married April 29, 1960. Edith and Marvin raised four children; Scott Kozberg, Christina Kozberg Oswalt, Hillory Kozberg Marks, and Michelle Kozberg Remillard. Edith and Marvin were married for 26 years. Marvin David passed away December 30, 1986.
Edith is a grandmother of nine grandchildren; Amanda Oswalt, Denise Oswalt, Jessica Oswalt, Michael Oswalt, Matthew Marks, Megan Marks, Kenneth Remillard, Nicolas Remillard, Ben Remillard and one great grandchild, Stephanie Oswalt.
Edith was a well-loved teacher. She taught for several years at St. Bridget of Sweden School in Van Nuys, and also taught at St. Victor’s in West Hollywood. She also taught and assisted in the math department at LA Valley College. Edith would occasionally run across a student that she taught many years ago and the students would tell her what an impression she had left with them.
She loved teaching so much that even after retirement, she continued to teach her younger grandchildren reading and Spanish.
Edith loved to volunteer and loved animals. She combined the two and was a docent at the LA Zoo for several years.
Edith really loved adventure and loved to travel. One of Edith’s favorite things was Disneyland and she loved to see the Disney castles. She had a wished to see every Disney castle. She visited California, Florida, Tokyo, and Paris. One of most favorite adventures was taking a Disney Cruise through the Panama Canal and the Caribbean and through the coast of Mexico! Another one of Edith’s favorite traveling adventures was when she visited Egypt.
One of Edith’s favorite quotes comes from Pinocchio; “I’ve got no strings so I have fun I’m not tied up to anyone. They’ve got strings but you can see there are no strings on me. Edith is free now.
Edith lived with her daughter Michelle, son in law Daniel and their three children, in Van Nuys, CA. She visited with her son Scott on Sundays.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Rose Haybeck January 1982 and her father, Hilliard Elliot Smallberg in January 1982, and her husband, Marvin D. Kozberg December 30, 1986.
Edith loved to cook and recently spent time visiting with Jessica, her granddaughter and would share recipes and cooking tips.
Edith was stoic, when necessary, zany, and crazy when letting loose and having fun and was loving, caring and generous.

Edith passed on her resourcefulness and resiliency and faith to her kids. Edith had a strong faith and believed that Jesus Christ as her savior.

Edith will be sorely missed. There won’t be a day that we do not think of her.
