Elizabeth Carland, 93
Elizabeth Carland, age 93, died peacefully on May 6, 2017. Elizabeth was
born November 8, 1923, in Cody, Nebraska, to parents Margaret and
Eugene Livermont.
She attended Holy Rosary Mission, on the Pine Ridge reservation, in South
Dakota. In 1939 she transferred to St. Francis Mission High School, on the
Rosebud reservation, in St. Francis, South Dakota, where she graduated in
1941. She then enrolled in the St. Joseph Nursing School in Alliance,
Nebraska where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1945.
Later that year she moved to Los Angeles, California and married Patrick
Carland. They moved to the San Fernando Valley and raised three
children; Patty, Marie, and Michael.
In 1964 they moved to Van Nuys and she joined the St. Jane Frances
Catholic Church parish. She was a member of Christian services and the
food pantry for many years. She also volunteered as the school nurse for a
few years.
She started her nursing career working at Good Samaritan Hospital, and
later moved to Queen of Angels Hospital, both in Los Angeles. She then
moved to Valley Hospital in Van Nuys where she retired in 1988.
Elizabeth loved to sew, RVing at the beach, and traveling across the U.S.
She is survived by her three children; Patricia Carland, Marie Carland-Childers,
and Michael Carland.
She also has three sisters; Edna Larabee of Sturgis, South Dakota, Anita
Fisher of Broken Bow, Nebraska, and Joan Erichsen of Sioux Falls, South
Dakota.
She also has numerous nieces and nephews in California and the midwest.
Services for Elizabeth Carland will be held:
Saturday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at
St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church
13001 Victory Blvd in North Hollywood
