Gautam Parikh

April 3, 1951 — October 29, 2020

Gautam ‘Gary’ Kantilal Parikh, aged 69, transitioned peacefully on 29th October 2020 at his family home in Burbank, CA after a courageous seven month battle with cancer.

Gautam was born on April 3, 1951 in Aatarsumba in Kaira District, Gujurat, India to Kantilal & Kanchen Parikh. He has three siblings, including his older brother Manoj Parikh and two younger sisters, Parimela Mehta and Rita Mehta. Although Gautam was the younger brother of the family, he always provided guidance, leadership and invaluable life lessons to all, both young and old. Gautam graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in management & accounting from Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda. After graduating, Gautam worked for the Bank of Baroda for nearly 10 years before moving from India to Texas in 1982. He then worked for Allianz insurance for 25+ years where he built lifelong friendships with many of those he worked with. After retiring, Gautam obtained his real estate license in California and provided mentorship to friends and family in the industry.

Gautam was happily married to his gorgeous wife, Sushila Parikh, who was his partner in life for nearly 40 years, moving together from Texas to California in 1984 to build their forever home. He is also survived by his two children, Sagar & Shivani Parikh, who loved him dearly. Gautam was always present (and the biggest fan!) at his son & daughter’s extracurricular activities, whether it was a baseball game, swim meet or show choir rehearsal. Gautam made a friend out of anyone he encountered and made everyone feel welcome at the family’s home.

Besides spending time with his family and friends, Gautam had a passion and love for religion, yoga, reading, travelling & karaoke. He was a strong devotee of Sri Nathji of Nathdwara and never missed a day of worship. He was a foodie, dog lover, a walking encyclopaedia and the biggest Dodgers & Lakers fan. Gautam had the curiosity and creativity of a child’s heart, with a bright and energetic personality that inspired you from the first encounter. He was adventurous & fascinated with nature and had always dreamed of climbing the Himalayas, seeing the Northern Lights and visiting the glaciers of Alaska. Gautam lived life to the fullest, always taking every opportunity to tell a joke, dance, sing or make a friend out of a stranger. He touched many lives with his generosity, sense of humour and passion for life.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Gautam by sharing their fondest memories and well wishes below. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Healing Net Foundation: https://thehealingnet.z2systems.com/np/clients/thehealingnet/donation.jsp
