James Thames

October 28, 1942 — January 24, 2018

James Clyde Thames, Jr. was born October 28, 1942 to the union of James Clyde Sr. and Minnie
Merl Thames, in Jackson, Mississippi. James was the first child of five children born to this union.
James graduated from Calumet High School in June of 1960. He joined the United States Marines in 1961 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty, he worked
many years as a supervisor in the retail industry.
Jim's love for me and Onyx was unwavering, we were apart for over 30 years and in 2006 he came back into our lives until he went home to be with the Lord.
James was a loving and kind husband, father, and my best friend. He loved laughing and always had a smile for you. He never complained about all the pain he was in. Some of his favorite shows he looked at every day were Andy Griffith and Wheel of Fortune and his passion for plants, gardening, and sports, especially football. He loved politics and current events and he discussed them often with family and friends. I certainly can't forget his love for jazz! He and his daughter Onyx were like two peas in a pod, always getting themselves "in the dog house" with me. His favorite saying as Onyx and I left the house was, "Don't spend all his loot".
James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Norval ("Ricky").
He is survived by his wife Aleta and daughter Onyx and daughter Tracy (by a previous marriage). Among other surviving members of his family are two sisters, Barbara Jackson and Kathryn (Kevin) Russell. His aunts Corrine Booth and Ruby (N.Z) Bryant; as well as nieces and nephews, Kelli Thames, Lauren Russell, Barry Jackson, Brian Jackson, Marcus Thames, Kevin James Russell and James Christopher Thames; best friend James Maxey and a host of cousins and others friends to cherish his memory.
Pops we loved you dearly and you will surely be missed by all who knew you. Rest in Peace and Onyx and I will see you heaven.
