Ludwig Dexter Alexander Welsh

December 18, 1959 — June 10, 2024

Ludwig Dexter Alexander Welsh of North Hills, California died unexpectedly on June 10, 2024 at 64 years of age.

Ludwig was born on December 18, 1959 in Belize, British Honduras in Central America to Edna and Clive Welsh, Sr. After his father's untimely death in 1961 when he was a young child, his mother Edna relocated her young family to Los Angeles, California where Ludwig grew up. He was an excellent student and attended Western Avenue Elementary School, Horace Mann Junior High School and Crenshaw High School where he played on the basketball team and graduated with high honors in 1978. While attending Crenshaw High, Ludwig was recognized for having the highest PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) score in the entire LA Unified School District. He then went on to attend the University of La Verne after earning a full scholarship to this prestigious educational institution. He also attended UCLA and was proud that his daughter Lauren now is going to attend this university in the fall.

Ludwig was preceded in death by his father, Clive Welsh, Sr., his mother, Edna Welsh Zetina, his brother, Kenneth Owardo Welsh and his namesake uncle, Ludwig Welsh.

Ludwig is survived by his beloved wife Maria Luisa "Malou" Villalino Welsh, his three children who meant the world to him: Marcus Welsh, Steven Welsh and Lauren Welsh, his five remaining siblings: Genevieve Welsh, Corrine Welsh Henderson, Clive Welsh, Jr., Eleanor Welsh Moon and Angela Welsh Patin and his brother in law, Sherman Moon, Jr. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Jessica Welsh, James Henderson, Jr., Ulysses Robertson III, JaShaun Banks, Sherman Moon III, Juanita Moon, Nicole Patin Leon, Jason Patin, James Henderson III, Kandice Henderson, Leila Robertson, Khia Robertson, Leonessa Robertson, JaShaun Banks, Jr., Citlali Banks, Jaelynn Moon, Ethan Esquibel, Nicholas Casillas, Gabriella Leon, Annie Knudsen, Lisa DePiro, Jazmine Villalino, AJ Villalino, Gisele Villalino, Alexis Uy, Amber Santiago and all of whom he loved and cherished.

Ludwig had so many relatives and longtime friends whom he valued and loved. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was an active church member of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church. He often contributed his time and energy and served as Lay Eucharistic Minister, Youth Leader, and as a member of the vestry. Everyone who knew Ludwig knows that he was a huge sports fan and was especially dedicated to basketball. He was not only an avid spectator, he enjoyed playing basketball throughout much of his life, especially with his kids.

Ludwig's unexpected passing came as a shock to all of his family and friends, who are still reeling from this loss. We are devastated by his absence but are comforted when we remember his dignity, his wit, impeccable manners, unfailing kindness, and the love he had for those closest to him. He never met anyone he didn't instantly like and welcome into his circle. He was also someone who could be counted on to help or provide emotional support when needed. We couldn't have asked for a better Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle and Friend. We will miss him and cherish his memory all of our remaining days. We are immensely grateful for the time we had with him.

Ludwig will live on in our hearts and minds forever and we look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
