Marie Wilson
February 23, 1920 - September 8, 2021
Marie Wilson passed peacefully at her home on the morning of September 8, 2021. Born on February 23, 1920, she lived to be 101. Born in Ohio to Herb and Gloe Williams, she moved with her family to California after graduation from Lakewood High School. After attending Glendale Business College, she worked as a switchboard operator at Toll Junior High School in Glendale. In 1947 she married Willard Wilson at the Glendale First United Methodist Church where she remained an active member for the rest of her life. In 1955, Willard and Marie became parents to their only child, daughter Chris, and Marie became a full time homemaker.
Marie loved theater, particularly musicals. Her first theatrical experience was as a member of the chorus in Lakewood High School’s production of HMS Pinafore. In marrying Willard, she found a likeminded theater fan and the two spent over 50 years in the audience of almost every single Broadway show to tour in Los Angeles. Marie and Willard also enjoyed travel, visiting Soviet Russia, Europe, Australia, the South Pacific, and a Caribbean cruise through the Panama Canal.
Marie was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority since 1945 and was also a lifetime member of PEO, a ladies’ philanthropic organization. She was also honored for over 25 years of volunteer service with the Burbank Council of Camp Fire Girls. She donated to and supported many charities throughout her life, particularly those dedicated to animal welfare and protecting the environment. Marie also supported the National World War II Museum in New Orleans and ensured that the names of her brothers Wallace and Donald, as well her husband Willard, were listed there in recognition of their service during the war.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Willard, her parents, and older brother Donald Williams. She is survived by her daughter Chris Wilson (wife Pam Marshall), her younger brother Wallace Williams, her beloved cat Chi Chi Maria, nieces Beth Reams and Debbie Gunn Wallace, and nephews Mark Alan Williams, Mike Williams, and Mike Gunn, as well as an extended family of great nieces and nephews.
Visitation and viewing will be at Angeleno Mortuary (5948 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91401) from 4 - 6 pm, Sunday, September 19, with a funeral service Monday, September 20, 12:30 pm at Forest Lawn (6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068), reception following.
