Mario Jose Lopez passed away on January 26, 2021 in Van Nuys, California from complications due to Covid-19.
Mario was born on October 3, 1952 in Puerto Cortes, Honduras. The son of Amparo Quiroz and Jose Angel Esteban Lopez. He was one of eleven children, seven which are still alive to this day.
Mario was a well known radio personality (Radio DJ) in Honduras. He always knew he wanted to be a radio personality. At the young age of 4, he would play pretend with his brother Angel, Mario would do the commercials and announcements while his brother Angel would sing. When he was around 11, his grandmother Maria Quiroz took him to a contest for upcoming radio announcers where he won first place. This led him to a career at Radio Cortes. From there he worked in San Pedro Sula, Honduras where he worked at various stations like Radio 1050 (where he became General Manager at the age of 15), Super Q, La Fabulosa, La Cariñosa y Radio Mundo. Mario's success grew and he launched a career at Radio HRN, a well known and popular station in Tegucigalpa, Honduras where his focal point was noticias (news). After work, he dedicated his free time to soccer, Mario was a huge fan of the sport, he would end his days playing with one of his favorite teams, Real España. Mario became a very well known celebrity in Honduras and because of his popularity, it launched him a career in New York as a radio personality for Super KQ. His success grew more as the years passed and he ended up moving to Los Angeles, California to work for Super KQ Los Angeles.
Mario had a passion for music and was a natural born entertainer, he was also an over achiever, while working for Super KQ, he opened up his own business with his wife Hilma, which brought him a lot of success.
After 30 years of working as a radio personality, He became the General Manager of La Raza, La Sabrosa, and El Sol (radio stations).
Mario had four children Marinho, Junior, Sandy, and Alessandra (known best as Hilmita). He always wanted the best for his family, he dedicated his life to provide his family with a fortunate future. He was driven, and strived to give his family nothing but the best.
Mario is survived by his two children Alessandra, and Marinho, his grandchildren Alexis, Cesar, Michael, Steven, Sophie, and Aime, His Father Jose Angel Esteban and his seven brothers and sisters. He was extremely loved by his wife of 30 years Hilma, stepdaughter Yvette, and her children Matthew and Alec.
Mario was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a beloved brother and an amazing friend. He always extend his hand to those who needed help and never expected anything in return. He was a kind, giving, and loving person. Mario was loved by many and will be forever missed.
