Michael Casey Manahan, 85, of Los Angeles, California passed away from complications related to Covid-19 on September 15th, 2020.
Michael was born in Oakland, California to Martha and Roland Manahan. He grew up with his two brothers, Peter and Patrick, in Northern California, where their mother attended UC Berkeley and their father was a chemical engineer. In 1943, the Manahan family moved to Southern California. As children, Michael and his two brothers attended local public and Catholic schools and then all three attended and graduated from Loyola High School. Michael went to UCLA for undergraduate and then Loyola Law School to become a lawyer. During this time, he also became a member of the National Guard Army band. Throughout his life, Michael loved music, playing the trombone and singing. While attending college, Michael met his future wife, Diane Marie DeSurra, at a Catholic dance. Both Michael and Diane shared a deep talent and appreciation for music and loved dancing together. In 1961, they fell in love and got married. Shortly after, they started a family, and between 1963 and 1979, they had a total of seven children. Michael and Diane’s house was always full of music, laughter and big social gatherings. As a family, the Manahan clan loved to play music together, go to the mountains, go to the beach and spend time with their large family and group of friends. Michael was a loving, patient, and kind husband, father and grandfather.
Michael Manahan is survived by his seven children: David, Michelle, Maureen, Mark, Melodie, Joseph and Giovanni and his eight grandchildren: Kevin, Amanda, Jonathan, Tulasi, Zander, Thomas, Dianna and Nikolai.
