Paul Erasmo Velasquez of Lake Elsinore, CA passed away on February 7, 2018. He was born on April 28, 1932 in Van Nuys, CA at the Velasquez family home on Erwin Street. His parents were Jesus Velasquez and Guadalupe Velasquez (Morales). He attended elementary/junior high school at St. Elisabeth School and graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1950. Soon after high school he was drafted in the Army and trained in Panama for the Korean War. He later recalled the challenge of training/living in the rainy jungle. Paul’s father passed away in 1950 and he received an early honorable discharge. He married Lucille Barbosa in 1959. Paul and Lucy’s union of over 58 years resulted in four children, Paul, Samuel, Anthony, Elena, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children and Lucy.
Preceding him in passing were his siblings Ethel, Mike, Ruben and Esther. He is also survived by his two sisters, Margaret Crowe and Gloria Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul made getting together with his brothers, sisters and mother a priority. There was always family time and barbecues as Paul & Lucy’s kids grew. Their mothers would later live with them in their home.
Paul worked at Lockheed Aircraft company in Burbank, CA and Palmdale, CA for a total of 46 years. He received multiple work commendations for high performance and served as a union steward. Paul owned a restaurant and real estate throughout the years. He taught his children to have a strong work ethic and love for family.
In his retirement years Paul enjoyed classic movies, traveling with Lucy to Mexico and Hawaii, swimming at the gym and helping with the grandkids. Most of Paul’s life was spent living in the S.F. Valley. He also lived in Lancaster and lastly Lake Elsinore.
A viewing and service will be held on Monday, February 19 at the San Fernando Spanish SDA church 14646 Chatsworth Dr, Mission Hills, CA 91345 (Viewing 830 a.m.-9:30 am., Service 9:30 -10:30)
Burial will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary at 11 am at 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall CA 91321. Reception to follow burial service.
