Richard Olan Littlejohn was born on December 11, 1937 to Albert and Ola Littlejohn of San Antonio, Texas. To this union he was the eleventh child.
During his childhood Richard learned to become a talented musician, playing the piano, keyboard, the harp, a flute, drums, and his beloved saxophone.
Richard graduated from McClymonds High School in Oakland, California. In January of 1956 he joined the Marine Corps on Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA. In 1957 at age 20 he played minor league baseball for the Cincinnati Reds, while serving the country. In January of 1958 the Marine Corps. transferred him to be stationed in San Diego, CA. By August of 1958, Richard received an Honorable Discharge. He continued to play baseball until 1959 when he moved back to Oakland, CA.
While in Oakland he met and married Eleanor F. Marshall. To this union three girls were born: Jacquelyn, Lori Francis, and Veronica.
He continued his baseball career from 1964 thru playing for the Minnesota Twins minor league.
Richard had an extensive work history and retired age 73. As hard as he worked, he played golf just as hard. He enjoyed being on the golf course as much as possible until he became ill.
Proceeding him in death are his parents John Albert and Ola Mae; five brothers: Bruno, Robert Langston, Albert, Washington Clark and John Austin; four sisters: Lenora, Jessie Ladonia, Thelma, and Birdie Lee.
On Sunday March 24th Richard Olan entered eternal rest. He leaves to mourn his memory three daughters: Jacque, Lori, Veronica. Two ex-wives: Eleanor (1961 – 1967) and Gail (1976 – 1983); one sister: Erma Jean; one brother-in-law: Warren; one sister-in-law: Peggy; six grandchildren: Quanisha Marie, Eric Dwayne, Candice Brishe’, Charlene Lee, Eleanor Ann, and Taylor Mone’t; eight great-grandchildren; a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, great nephews and nieces; great-great nephews and nieces, along with plenty of friends.
