Rowena Landas

Rowena Javier Landas, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023, at her home in Van Nuys, CA, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 18, 1946, at Digman, Bacoor, Cavite to Marcelo Ramos Landas and Dominga Javier. She went to Bacoor Elementary School, Francisco High School and graduated with a bachelors in Chemistry at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. Right after college she worked for a few years in the Philippines and left for the United States in Jan 1969. She landed her first job in the US at Reference Lab in North Hollywood and started as a lab assistant at BioScience Laboratory in August 1969. In 1979, she was promoted to assistant supervisor in the Chemistry Dept. and retired from BioScience (now Quest Diagnostics) after 44 years of service. Rowena loved spending time with family and always stressed the importance of it. Never married, but never alone, she loved being surrounded by her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed painting, golf, and her 1979 Jaguar, which she had bought as a birthday gift to herself in 1979. She also enjoyed going to Las Vegas, and most recently to Harrah’s in San Diego, and eating at buffets. She is survived by her adopted daughter Marissa (Cha), her sister Monina (Manny), her brother Florio (Tottie), and her many nieces, nephews, and their families. Rowena showed her loved ones the true meaning of family and generosity, and she will be deeply missed by many. Her celebration of life will be held at Angeleno Mortuary, 5948 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91401, on July 2, 2023 from 12pm to 6pm.
