William George Hughes, age 70, of Van Nuys, California, passed away on May 9, 2021. William was born on December 25, 1950 in Evanston, Illinois, though he spent most of his childhood in Los Angeles, California. He attended John H. Francis Polytechnic High School and then spent some time serving in the Army. After leaving the Army he returned to the Evanston area and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from DePaul University, as well as doing some doctoral work at Northwestern University. For the last eleven years, William worked as a Manager of IVR at CallFire in Santa Monica, California. He was a talented musician and composer who enjoyed playing piano, guitar, and mandolin, and loved spending time with his dog, Astra, at the dog park. William is survived by his siblings Terry, Tim, Chris, Peggy, and Kathy, his daughters Colleen, Kerry, and Erinn, and two granddaughters, Sofia and Odessa. A service will likely be held over the summer and information about that will be shared as arrangements are able to be made.
